Tropical Storm Katia Forms, Lee Next?

Well with most of us just saying goodbye to Hurricane Irene, we are only just beginning the peak of hurricane season which runs through the end of November. Did you know that while Irene was moving up the eastern seaboard and into Canada, Tropical storm Jose formed to the southeast of that storm? There wasn't much coverage about Jose as it never really got its act together and late Monday, completely dissipated.

Well now there is a new worry in the Atlantic Ocean. Tropical Storm Katia (pronounced - KAH-tyah) has formed just west of the coast of Africa Tuesday morning, and it is moving westward into the open Atlantic Ocean. The storm already looks to have a good circulation and conditions appear favorable for fairly quick development. In fact, the National Hurricane Center expects this to become a Hurricane by Wednesday evening. The storm is forecast to strengthen into a cat 2 or 3 storm over the weekend. While it is way too early to tell if this storm will have an impact on the U.S., it will certainly be a storm to watch over the coming days.

And now there could be a new problem. We are watching what could be another storm brewing in the Carribean south of Cuba. Most of our forecast models now show this system rapidly getting its act together and could become a tropical storm by the end of the week. The name would be "Lee". The models bring this storm up to the Texas-Louisana coast over the weekend. Stay tuned!
