It appears that the area from the Gulf Coast to New England could be in for a tremendous amount of rainfall through early next week. Tropical Storm Lee will drift north to northeastward over the coming days. The shear nature of tropical systems is to be prolific precipitation producers despite whether they contain damaging winds or not. In fact, the National Weather Service is forecasting over 20 inches of rain in Louisana! Check out the QPF Map below!

Some of the computer models are showing that the remnants of this tropical system will likely get absorbed into a cold front that will swing through the Ohio Valley Sunday into Labor Day. This system may even cause the front to stall temporarily which could add insult to injury to any location near the front. While the trend in the models would indicate that the tropical system will likely stay just to the south and east of Ohio, an upper-level low pressure system may move in behind the front and effectively draw moisture back into the state by the middle of next week.

As you can see from the National Weather Service precipitation forecast, it appears southeastern Ohio may have the greatest impact from this tropical system. However, some of the models do bring the moisture back farther west, which could mean more of the state would see the heavy rain. One thing is for sure, the weather will be much more unsettled and cool next week that this past week.
Stay tuned!
