The stimulus package is working according to Vice President Joe Biden who was in Cincinnati on Thursday.
Biden visited an old abandoned building that will be converted to apartments using stimulus money and was accompanied by Mayor Mark Mallory and a young man recently hired as a result of stimulus money,
Vice President Joe Biden asked the crowd for patience and says the recovery act is working."Communities rebuilt, factories reopened, workers re hired cops in street 174 billion dollars in 140 day", Biden said.
Critics, though, don't think the stimulus package is helping the economy recover fast enough but Biden disagrees.
"What would they do? would they do nothing? I hear nothing other than criticism, I hear nothing affirmative," Biden said.
During his speech, the Vice President announced a $3.5 million community grant for Cincinnati. A million and a half of that will be used to convert the old run down American Can Building.
"We have about 100 loft apartments here, we'll have commercial space and office space on first floor, help anchor historic business district," said Biden.
"We spoke to a resident here in the northside, she's lived here all her life. She tells me the old building is an eyesore and can't wait until it's transformed," Biden said. "Hopefully we can help turn the area around get new people living here."
Biden also pointed out Ohio received more than $4 billion in federal funds, including $2 billion for education, $1 billion for health care and $445 million for transportation.
