For many teachers, it's a challenge just to motivate their students to just do homework.
But Jodi Brown recently inspired hundreds of students to put on pink wigs, plan a surprise assembly and hand deliver pink carnations.
Brown has been diagnosed with breast cancer and her fight is no secret. Students said Brown has touched their lives and she is ONN's Teacher of the Month.
"I saw the news in the morning, and I wanted to nominate her, because I thought, there's not a better person, and it turned out everyone backed me up with it," said Taylor Bowman, Central Crossing student.
Bowman nominated Brown, not because she has breast cancer, but in spite of it.
At the assembly, Brown was showered with praise.
"If she has a down day, I'll say, take a day off. You're allowed to take a day off when you don't feel good, or take a day off when you do feel good, but she's here all the time," said Sherry Clark.
Brown said spending a day at school is like taking a day off from cancer.
"I enjoy coming to work because I don't have to eat, sleep and breathe cancer all of the time. So, I can stay focused," Brown said.
Brown just went through eight weeks of intensive chemotherapy treatments but continued to teach physical education through it all.
"She's one of the strongest women I've ever met and she's very passionate about her job. And she's very passionate about everything that she does, so this doesn't surprise me one bit," said her husband, Jay Brown.
The only thing keeping Mrs. Brown from coming to school is summer break.
"I have 12 more weeks of chemo, then I get surgery, so it's a long road but we'll get there," Brown added.
A victory she plans to celebrate with her students at Central Crossing in Grove City next September.
ONN and Westfield Insurance honors Teachers of the Month throughout the school year and you can see more of these stories on the Teacher of the Month Web page.
