As the state's unemployment rate continues to hover around 10 percent, the tough economy is forcing parents to make tough decisions.
Daycare providers are seeing their numbers drop as parents pull children from centers.
"We were really good, but then eventually we lost a few kids because the parents were losing their jobs," said Juliet Blackenberry, City Kids Daycare in Columbus.
The concern is that families are putting their children in unsafe environments.
Blackenberry said parents should know that pulling a child from daycare isn't the only option, reported ONN's Stephanie Mennecke.
"We are here for the children number one, but we're also here to help out the families," she added.
Blackenberry suggests struggling families talk to their daycare provider about payment plan options or adjustments in their hours.
The biggest danger is parents who decide to leave their children alone or with people who are not qualified to care for young ones.
Blackenberry said that certification, CPR training and licensing are among the list of requirements that daycare must meet.
Those requirements are in place to keep children safe.
