Mollie Lakin, 92, enjoys playing cards and reading the paper, but she also loves the outdoors.
"These past couple of days, it's been too hot," said Larkin. "It is much too hot to go anywhere."
Lakin lives at Wexner Heritage Village and enjoys spending time outdoors, but not lately.
With temperatures soaring into the hundreds, the senior living center is not taking any chances, ONN's Stephanie Mennecke reported on Thursday.
Lakin even fears stepping outside for a just a moment.
"They tell me if I go from our air conditioning into a car into a restaurant it won't be too bad. If it is too hot, I won't go," Larkin said.
Larkin is airing on the side of caution as are healthcare employees.
Renee Reimer-Kussmaul works with the elderly on a daily basis.
"You are not what you use to be unfortunately, you are weak already and then the sun beating down on you will definitely take a toll on you," said Reimer-Kussmaul.
A popular patio sat empty at the center on Thursday warning people about the heat.
Reimer- Kussmaul said that the heat can affect the elderly in several different ways. She also said that many medications can make them more sensitive to the sunlight.
"Lots of medications that you don't even think about, like Tylenol, Aleve, Ibuprofen," Reimer-Kussmaul said.
As these temperatures continue to linger, the benches out front will remain bare and the hallways will remain full.
"I've gone through many warm years, but this too will pass," Larkin said.
