Ohio House Speaker William Batchelder, R-Medina, has removed Rep. Jarrod Martin, R-Beavercreek, as chairman of the Veterans' Affairs Committee.
It's a move that will cost Martin $6,500 a year in extra salary, ONN's affiliate WHIO reported.
On Wednesday, Batchelder named Rep. Terry Johnson, R-McDermott, as Martin's replacement.
House members earn an annual base salary of $60,584, with extra money for committee assignments and leadership posts. The Veterans' Affairs chairmanship pays an additional $6,500.
Batchelder and Ohio Republican Chairman Kevin DeWine earlier had called on Martin to resign from the House after Martin was charged with drunken driving and child endangering.
Martin has said that he would not resign and has not submitted his resignation.
"It was a difficult decision to remove Rep. Martin as chairman but it is clear to him (Batchelder) that this caucus, which has accomplished wonderful things, regarded his situation as a major distraction," Dittoe said.
Martin could not be reached for comment. He has maintained his innocence and entered a not guilty plea to the charges.
The charges stem from a July 22 incident in Jackson County when Ohio State Patrol troopers said Martin's Dodge Ram pickup truck drifted left of center and his trailer didn't have taillights.
During the stop, Martin refused to submit to field sobriety tests and his driver's license was automatically suspended for a year.
There were children in the vehicle which lead to the child endangering charge.
