The time spent inside the walls of a Columbus salon is a welcomed distraction for Maureen Force.
"Being a mom, it's a nice way to get away and have a couple hours to myself with good company in a nice place," Force said.
She gets her hair colored and 'all dolled up' about once a month.
"I make an extremely conscious effort in everything I do to make sure the products are right and the packaging is ok," Force added.
Only healthy and products as natural as possible are used on Force's hair.
That's the underlying theme of Beth Seitz's Salon. "I look at a lot of things. I look at how they are packaged, the packing they use. I look at chemicals they use in them. I look for paraben free," explained Seitz.
The lack of chemicals makes hair treatments safer for expectant moms.
Natural light fills her studio and glimmers off furniture and flooring she purchased, consistent with the sustainable and environmentally friendly theme.
All those shampoos and cuts means there are always a lot of empty bottles laying around - bottles that avoid the dumpster on her watch.
"Between all of our plastics and metals and glasses, we probably contribute several hundred pounds of material into recyclables rather than landfills each year," Seitz said.
