Authorities and residents in Newark are crediting the actions of one woman for saving lives.
More than 10 shots were fired at the Eastern Grill Tuesday night.
The Eastern Grill is described as a popular friendly place that is only feet away from a school.
"This is a neighborhood type bar, a lot of people around town know this bar, they come here and the last thing they expect is trouble," said Newark resident Bill Powell.
It was just after 11pm Tuesday when authorities got the call, ONN's Stephanie Mennecke reported.
"There is a man that was in here drinking and I told him to leave, he got a gun out of his car and he's hooting a gun through the front door of the bar." Co-Owner of the bar, Pam Cannon told police.
When Cannon told the man to leave, his girlfriend said that he had a loaded gun in the car.
Cannon immediately locked the front door.
Larry Shoemaker, who at one time co-owned this bar himself, doesn't like to think of what might have happened
"If she hadn't done what she did, I don't know… but luckily she did," Shoemaker said.
Shattered glass still sits near the front door and bullet holes surround the door handle.
Cannon said that she noticed the man was very intoxicated, but it was when he kicked the door from the inside that she decided to tell him to leave.
"It would of read a whole different story in the paper on the front page if she hadn't done that." Shoemaker said
Police said the only person shot was the gunman who turned the gun on himself.
