Foster Group Homes To Close

Fifty-two Ohio children are in the process of being moved out of their current homes due to safety concerns.

ViaQuest owns 19 foster group homes in the state of Ohio.

Sixteen of them are in Franklin County, the other three are in Lake county in northeast Ohio, ONN's Stephanie Mennecke reported.

Due to complaints and 62 citations, the state is in the process of terminating their license.

Spokesman for the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Benjamin Johnson said that a termination like this doesn't happen every day, but the complaints warrant action.

"Things like broken bones, a child run over by van.  Drug and alcohol abuse, structural problems at facilities including a collapsing floor, leaking plumbing and mold," Johnson said.

Deborrha Armstrong, communication director for Franklin County Children Services said that the process has begun to move all the children.

"It's not an easy task but we have resources available.  We will assess each child individually and make sure we have a plan in place to ensure their safety and well-being," Armstrong said.

Armstong is hopeful to have all of the Franklin county children placed in a new home by the end of the February.

ViaQuest has a right to a hearing, and can appeal this motion.

ONN did try to reach ViaQuest for a comment, but officials were not immediately available for comment.
