The Ohio State Highway Patrol made a major discovery on the Ohio Turnpike, but it was not drugs or weapons they found during a traffic stop that landed one man in jail.
Tae Gone Park was charged with trademark counterfeiting, ONN's Cristin Severance reported.
"Over three thousand counterfeit ball caps," a trooper, who wished to remain anonymous, said.
The 13,000 counterfeit baseball hats were piled into Tae Gone Park's vehicle when he was pulled over.
Troopers said that the hats displayed trademark logos of the NFL, NBA, MLB, The Ohio State University and Monster Energy Drink.
"The ball caps would total over $60,000 dollars in value," The trooper said.
The OSHP called each of those companies and soon found out the hats were counterfeit products.
It is something the OSHP have been trained to spot and deal with, Severance reported.
"It's becoming a growing criminal enterprise," the trooper said.
It can also be a sign of other serious crimes.
"It's a racket to obtain money. The money is also used to fund other things…narcotic trafficking and also ties into terrorism," the trooper said.
Park, of Glenview, Ill., was arrested and is facing felony trademark counterfeiting charges, a fourth degree felony.
