The Ohio Ballot Board has cleared the way for a group to continue its effort for a ballot measure that would keep workers covered by labor contracts from having to join a union or pay dues.
The board on Thursday determined the proposal is a single ballot issue. Ohioans for Workplace Freedom now needs to collect about 385,000 signatures to place the proposed "right-to-work" amendment before voters.
The group's Chris Littleton said it's unlikely the signatures will be in hand in time to make this year's ballot. He says it's more likely to appear in 2013. But the group can collect signatures from voters at the polls for the state's March 6 primary.
The proposal emerged this fall, days after voters rejected a law placing restrictions on public employee unions.
