Dr. Jill Biden and U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis will make several stops in the Buckeye state on Wednesday as part of a three-day regional bus tour to highlight the role of community colleges in developing a workforce to meet the needs of regional businesses.
Solis and the wife of Vice President Joe Biden will tour the production line at DG Medical in Centerville at 1:30 pm which is a company that is a workforce development partner with Sinclair Community College and BioOhio.
This month, President Obama announced a new $8 billion Community College to Career Fund, administered by the departments of Labor and Education, to forge partnerships between community colleges and businesses to train two million workers with skills that will lead directly to jobs.
Dr. Biden, a community college instructor for 18 years, and Solis, who began her career in public service as a community college trustee, will hear from students, educators, and employers driving these partnerships.
Before their stop in Centerville, the tour will begin at the Columbus State Community College Center for Workforce Development. Other stops Wednesday include Cincinnati State Technical and Community College to hear how Labor Department funding is helping expand the health careers collaborative.
