Rob Abel said he first became involved in television through a friend who worked in the industry.

During his college years at Ohio University, he worked extensively in the TCom and journalism programs.  He interned at WCMH-TV for several summers.  After graduation, Abel worked at WANE-TV in Fort Wayne, Ind.  He also was employed at WBBH-TV in Fort Myers, Fla., before joining WBNS-TV in 1998.

Abel, a Newark, Ohio, native, said his favorite assignments included covering John Glenn's 1998 return to space, Hurricane Katrina, the 1997 World Series, the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, and his trip to Industrial Light & Magic to go behind the scenes of 1999's "Star Wars:  Episode I."

"I find the creative process inspiring," Abel said.  "Television is unique because you basically start with an idea and in several hours creates a finished product within tight time constraints.  It is this process from idea conception to finished product that peaks my interest."

Abel has garnered eight Emmy nominations and has taken home several Ohio News Photographer Association, U.S. National Press Photographers Association, and two Associated Press awards.

Abel enjoys still photography, carpentry and athletics.
