MEDINA, Ohio — ONN cameras were rolling when Michael Malin turned himself into Medina Police Friday.

Detectives said Malin, Shawn Shea, Kortney Mains, Kyle Mains, Anthony George and a juvenile stole hundreds of pieces of mail from a drop box behind the Medina Post Office.

The box they broke into has since been removed, ONN's Cristin Severance reported.

"They cut the postal padlock with a hacksaw and made entry into the box," said Patrick Berarducci, Medina Police Chief.

Chief Berarducci said they were looking for gift cards, credit cards, or any information they could use to steal someone's identity.

"The scope of economic loss has not been determined," Berarducci said. "When someone steals your identity, they steal your entire financial package. Everything about you is know to them."

Chief Berarducci said the suspects were caught on surveillance video using a stolen gift card, but police aren't sure yet what else the alleged thieves took from the mail or how many victims are actually out there.

"When you disrupt 300 to 400 lives, its wrong and we're not going to tolerate it," Berarducci said. "I don't care what your age is, or what the reason is, we are not going to tolerate it."

Chief Berarducci said they will file additional charges against the people they have in custody.

Police are still looking for more suspects that may have been involved in the crime.
