Oil Prices Reach Record HighApr 20 2006 12:41PM
Gasoline prices hit $4.14 a gallon in California after oil prices broke a new record overnight, reaching $72.49 a barrel. All eyes are on the gas pumps. Here in Columbus, gas prices are nearly $3 a gallon at some stations. It's no wonder people are starting to re-think their approach when it comes to filling up, but, unfortunately, central Ohioans don't have much of a choice. With oil prices reaching record highs, some drivers may have expected the jump, but if you didn't pay much attention youre going to get hit with sticker shock. 10TV spotted everything from $2.89 for regular to $3.11 for premium on a gallon of gasoline. Central Ohioans have been through this before but it's still not easy trying to deal with it. For some, they'll pay the high price but for others, it's a sacrifice. "Usually it would only take me 40 to 50 dollars to go around a week. Now it's about a hundred bucks," says one driver. Last year at this time, gas prices were about $2.09. During the summer driving season in 2002, motorists were filling up for under a $1.50 a gallon. Five years later, the price is expected to be well above $2.50 a gallon on average. Prices could reach $3.50 a gallon or more. |
