A decade-old case against a confessed rapist finally comes to an end, but not before there were new, shocking claims of child abuse.
Twyana Davis is the young woman who put her baby in a trash can outside her dorm at Ohio Dominican University. The child survived and Davis started a foundation to help other pregnant teens. Everything seemed just fine, until early this year, when the 30-year-old pled guilty to rape.
Davis walked in to the courtroom hoping for the best, a five-year sentence and out in three years for good behavior. It didn't happen.
Judge Michael Holbrook said the last 10 years of her life have been a series of manipulations, a facade, a sham.
He as referring to her story about being raped and giving birth back in 1995 and then in January finally admitting she was the rapist and the father of this child was her then 12-year-old cousin.
Davis says, "I cannot change the past. The only thing I can do is better myself for the future."
The prosecutor had more about Davis' past.
Dan Hawkins says, "Two or three other children she admitted to abusing. The youngest being anywhere from 18 months to 2 years of age."
That got Davis labeled a sexual predator for life. For the rape of the 12-year-old cousin, she got a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of 25.
A few hours later, back in the county jail, Davis admitted she was shocked by the sentence, but philosophical.
"I know who I am and I know I'm not those things. This is a time of my life to heal from the abuse I suffered as a child, so the cycle does not continue to keep going," Davis says.
Davis refused to answer any questions about any other victims, on the advice of her lawyers.
Children Services has not allowed Davis to see her daughter since April.
