TOLEDO, Ohio - You've seen them in the movies, but some Lucas County newlyweds say a real life wedding crasher isn't so funny, reports ONN affiliate WTOL's Lisa Rantala. They say they were scammed by a stranger trying to steal their gifts -- on their their wedding night. Investigators say the woman got all dressed up, hit three weddings the same night and stole nearly $500 in cash and gift cards. When she got caught, she told the wedding parties she was sorry. She told investigators it was all a dare. Investigators say one Lucas County woman mastered the "art" of wedding crashing. "She was dressed very nice. She had an ankle bracelet on," said Lucas County Sheriff Office's Lt. Bobby Leist. Investigators say 27-year-old Victoria Cramer even had her toes done to crash Jodi and Jason McMaster's wedding reception last month.
"I kind of woke up and thought, yesterday was awesome," said Jodi. "But, did somebody steal from us?" But unlike Hollywood's Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn's characters in "Wedding Crashers," deputies say Cramer did not make herself the center of attention. When the rest of the party scattered, investigators say Cramer went to the gifts and stole hundreds of dollars in cash and gift cards. "She struck when people have been drinking, celebrating," Leist said. "As a con artist goes, this is a pretty good one." "I couldn't even believe that someone would take advantage of two young people, getting married and trying to start their life together," said Jodi. Investigators are looking for other weddings the suspect may have crashed and want to know if she's working with others.
