Los Angeles - A mortgage research company says Ohio continued to have one of the highest foreclosure rates in the country last month. RealtyTrac says Ohio reported one foreclosure filing for every 290 households. The state had more than 17,000 filings in October, up 136 percent from a year ago. Only Nevada, California and Florida had higher filing rates. Nationwide, foreclosure filings nearly doubled in October from the same month last year. One alarming trend in October was an increase in the number of homes that were repossessed by lenders, a sign that more borrowers ended up losing their homes. In Ohio, 45 percent of all foreclosure filings during the month were notices of bank repossessions Copyright 2007, Associated Press, All Rights Reserved. |
