COLUMBUS, Ohio - Governor Strickland says the state will begin state-run video Keno gambling in an effort to deal with a budget shortfall that could total nearly 2 billion dollars by June 2009.

His plan anticipates 73 million dollars in new revenue from an expansion of the lottery that includes a video version of Keno.

The game will be offered in bars and other age-controlled venues around the state.

The governor says he distinguishes the new games from the video gambling machines outlawed last year because they will be "state-monitored, state-controlled and state-regulated."

Senator George Voinovich, a former Republican governor, says the proposal goes against the wishes of Ohioans who have voted against expanded gambling proposals three times.
